Celebrating Black History Month
Black
History Month is celebrated in a display of materials from the James W. Miller
Learning Resources Center . The display, located near the Reference area on
the Miller Center 's first floor, includes books honoring the accomplishments
and contributions of African Americans, from musicians to revolutionaries.
Books on the display table may be checked out unless they are from the Reference
Collection.
“Black History Month (February), was officially recognized in 1976 as a time to reflect on the accomplishments of African Americans in the United States . Interest in celebrating and preserving the accomplishments of African Americans began much earlier in the 20th century. Carter G. Woodson, a noted African historian, is known as the father of black history.”
